I met Betty when I was 18 years old at the telephone company in 1950, where we both worked. Betty was one of the kindest friends that I ever had. We decided in 1951 to accept a transfer to Phoenix, AZ to work at the telephone company. Think how brave we were. Two young girls who had never left Wisconsin. We did not know a soul. We hopped on a train in Oshkosh, WI and two days later we were in Phoenix, Arizona. The telephone company provided a job and 2 weeks stay at the YWCA and then we were on our own. It was exciting, new job, new friends, new apartment. Within a year Betty met Woody. Woody was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. They met on a blind date and fell in love. And then Betty and Woody introduced me to Tom on a blind date. We both were in love with those handsome men and in a short time we married them. Time went on. Betty and I moved around a lot with our husbands but we always kept in touch. Betty settled in Florida and I lived in Arizona. The children grew up and then Betty and I started to travel. Betty was a great traveling companion. She had a great sense of humor and still a kind and very sweet person. As we got older we kept in touch by mail and telephone. We were friends for 69 years. I miss my dear friend. I know we will meet in heaven and carry on our friendship.
Betty loved dogs. In Betty’s name I made a donation to “Home Fur Good”. She would have liked that!
