Obituary of Mary Follen

Mary Follen, 96 of Swartz Creek, Michigan passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 at Melech Hospice House. Mary was born in Lennon, Michigan on August 22, 1926. The daughter of Zigmund and Helen (Forro) Boldovics. She married Walter Follen on June 30, 1945. The couple resided in Swartz Creek where they raised their four children.

After Walters death in 1977 Mary spent the next 25 years traveling by motorhome throughout the United States and much of Canada. She was proud to say she had been to 49 states and had hopes of someday getting to Hawaii. She had so many interesting stories about the places she visited and her many adventures along her journey.

Throughout the years when she wasn't traveling she would spend time with friends and family at her home in Bradenton, Florida or her home on Lobdell Lake in Michigan.

Mary also owned Mary's Beauty Shop in the late 60's, was a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 3720, and a former member of the Red Hat Society.

For the past 20 years, Mary made her home in Swartz Creek. She enjoyed going on casino trips, playing Wii Bowling and bingo with her friends at Mari Dan Miller Farms apartments and taking annual trips to Florida.

Mary is survived by her daughter Sandra (James) Johnson of Brandon, Florida, daughter Mary Sue Burns of Sarnia, Ontario, and son Michael (Malina) Follen of Mason, Michigan. Grandchildren James C. (Casey Walling) Johnson, Tracy (Jonathan) Popple, McKenna (Tyler) Reid, Michael A. Follen, Jeremy Mason and Megan Boring; great-grandchildren, Emma S. Johnson, Jackson S. Popple, Maggie (Kyle) Scott, and Matt (Kristen) James and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, daughter Lorraine Berry, and grandson Scott Berry, son-in-law Patrick Burns, sisters Helen, Julia, Liz, and brother Jim.

Services will be held Friday, February 17th, 2023, at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek, Michigan. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass at 11am.

The family is hosting a luncheon in celebration of Mary’s life following the services in the Gathering Room at the church.  

 

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations may be made to the Swartz Creek Community Food Basket or the Swartz Creek Senior Center.
