Obituary of Mark J. Peters

MARK JEFFREY “MOK” PETERS, born on May 8, 1960 in Monterey, CA, and left this world unexpectedly on August 26, 2023. Mark leaves behind the love of his life, Eleanor “Ellie” Peters. They met in high school 45 years ago, found each other again, and finally married in 2018. Ellie always reminded him that she loves him more.

He is also survived by mother, Helen Peters-Totzke, daughter, Samantha Peters, brother Steve Peters (Michelle) and sister Heather Miethe (Josh), stepdad to Matt Hurley (April) and Dustin Hurley (Monique), and loved all of his grandchildren Averi Peters, Greyson, Harper, and Olivia Hurley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Commander Vernon W. Peters and son Logan Peters.

Mark attended London Central High School in England and graduated in 1978 from Merritt Island High School before going to ROTC at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and graduating with two Bachelors degrees; Education and Political Science. He then became a proud Captain in the US Army's Air Calvary as a helicopter pilot. After the Army, he worked for KFC, YUM, and Car Mart before moving to Florida to be with Ellie and retired in January from Cyprexx, Inc. as a property foreclosure maintenance manager. Once retired, Mark and Ellie set off for a 2-week cruise, went to Seattle to see their new granddaughter, and then had another spectacular vacation in Oahu, Hawaii.  They were living their best life.

Mark loved to talk to people and truly showed interest in everyone he met. He was such a fun loving guy, sometimes silly but that's why we loved him so much. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those lives he touched.

Services are expected to be held on Thursday, August 31^st at the Florida Mortuary Funeral & Cremation Services, 4601 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa, 33603. Visitation for the family will be held from 1-2 pm and from 2-5 pm for the public. There will be a graveside burial with military honors perfomed at the Florida National Cemetery Bushnell at a time and date to be determined.
